The Songs of Innocence and Experience by the 18th century english poet William Blake are unusual on two counts: the poems themselves deal with very down to earth human topics in a clear and straightforward way and as Blake was also a painter and engraver he illustrated them and block printed them himself. Running the whole lot together as we do here, words and printed illustrations, makes for a delightful and memorable experience. Not that it is all honey and sunshine because Blake is quite ready to take on the darker sides of us humans and our ways. Malcolm Hossick reads the poems and has edited them all together.
