Poetry has always had a secure place in China and these two poets Li t’ai Bo and Wu fu lie at its heart. Translated in the early 20th century by an Englishwoman Florence Ayescough and worked over by the Americn poet Amy Lowell they bring to non Chinese speakers a distinctive flavour of China at its best.
