William Faulkner

William Faulkner 1897 - 1962 Faulkner was born in New Albany, Mississippi. His family was prosperous and well-known in the area. When he was five they moved to nearby Oxford which was to be his base and his inspiration for the rest of his life. He had a rather intermittent school and University education, published his first novel in 1928 and went on to build a solid reputation, receiving the Nobel Prize for literature in 1949.
